New year, new goals!
Happy New Year!!! I hope you have all had a restful Christmas and New Year and thanks for coming back to read another edition of the blog!
It’s Sunday 3rd January 2021, if you would have told me 12 months ago I was about to start Makers Academy and finally change the direction of my entire life, I think I would actually laugh in your face. What a difference a year makes.
Now 2020, was pretty treacherous for many, I was luckily pretty unscathed — bar missing a couple of Carnivals and holidays, for this I was truly grateful. But it was safe to say this time last year I was pretty lost with what I wanted to do with my life.
My current skill set was not engaging me, I wondered why I had no interest in getting up for work in the mornings and although working for some pretty cool places I was rather uninspired. This made goal setting pretty hard as the world was quite literally my oyster.
Learning to program had always been on my to do list, however this was not a journey I wanted to venture on alone — those that know me, know I am a social being and I actually learn a lot from discussing what I am learning. I also know I needed some structure to not end up down a rabbit hole.
So after a couple more hurdles, a few re-adjustments of the plan, completion of the four week pre-course and the support of some incredible people — here I am pursuing my dreams. Day 0 Makers Academy Full Time Course.
But without intention, there is a lot of opportunity to get lost, not just on the course but in life. So here I am setting some goals, most for Q1 2021, which is the duration of the course but also a few more for the rest of the year.
The course runs on the principles of self directed learning and we are entrusted with three responsibilities:
- Deciding what to aim for (your goals).
- Determining how to get there (your plan).
- Getting insight into your progress (self-assessment).
This gives us the opportunity to decide which direction our career will head and learn the appropriate things necessary for that path — buffet style.
So what am I aiming for in 2021? The Headlines:
- Complete Makers Academy, document the process, challenge myself and enjoy it
- Get hired into a job as a Software Developer with the capacity for international remote work
- Move abroad with said job
- Remain intentional with my relationships
- Save money — 5 figures
- Prioritise my health both physical and mental
- Read 20 books
- Crochet at least 1 item of clothing
- Grow my business and hire/pay our first employee/contractor
Now of course some of these are very vague (somewhat intentionally — not everything has to be on the internet) but it is written down and shared with the world. I am still working on the plan part, for some are simpler than others — crocheting needs to just happen.
If you would like to assist me in fulfilling any of these goals, please reach out? Many hands make light work.
For now I am going to enjoy my last night of “freedom” and if you want to support my journey, feel free to “buy me a coffee”
p.s My final goal has to be — Keep blogging! Hold me accountable, thanks!
Soca and Software
The incredible Kes the Band added to my live music infatuation with their second live concert of 2020. Check out their incredible music, it has definitely been keeping me entertained while I have been putting in the hours studying!
