Happy hump day, we are half way through week 10 and everything is getting very real, very quickly.
Today I started my second tech test, named Gilded Rose and I decided to do it in JavaScript while awaiting my feedback from bank test. Gilded Rose is a famous tech test where you have legacy code (inherited code) and you have to add to it without breaking what is already there.
My mind was not completely in it this morning, with my upcoming interview at 2pm, I really struggled to get my head in the coding game — plus I had all sorts of set up issues with my text editor so I decided to cut for the morning and do some preparation for the interview.
As it was my first interview in around 4 years, I was definitely feeling the nerves with it also being my first time on this side of the conversation for hiring a developer, I think that added pressure.
I spent time exploring the organisations tech stack as well as swotting up on some simple questions such as ‘what happens when you click a link on the internet?’ or ‘what makes good code?’.
I then spent all of lunch away from the computer was very necessary and it was spent partying around the front room in celebration of a favourite DJ and producer’s 16 year anniversary in the Soca business. It was nice to free up both physically and mentally.
My call was around half an hour but pretty informal, they are about to expand and hire in about 6 weeks time to bring most of their outsourced projects in house. It was pretty comforting to hear about the skill and attributes were exactly what we had been working on at Makers.
Things are currently on hold with that company until they release their roles but it was exciting to have my first conversation under my belt and has definitely given me some thoughts and ideas about what I need to work on once full time job hunting does start.
Software and Soca
The pressure is definitely building but luckily I haven’t gone boom yet like Ricky T!
