Day 43 — Whooops!

It’s 9.45pm, much later than I would usually be writing my blog but today has just ran away with itself.

This morning started incredibly with great feedback from my unprepared review. Remember the three levels…

  1. Improving — did not yet credibly demonstrate the skill
  2. Steady — credibly demonstrated a skill
  3. Strong — as it says on the tin

Review 1 — mostly improving, couple steady and one strong

Review 2 — 100% steady

Well I know review 3 went well, but I wouldn’t say it was anything special but my review said a little differently. 1/3 steady, ok that is cool but 2/3 was STRONG! I was so so so surprised. But goals are definitely being hit — each review needs to be better than the last.

Dream team this morning was mostly jokes and bad internet connection and deliberations about if certain things will actually open up on time with the covid road map.

Group project today I have opted to stay on working on the rails side of things rather than design or infrastructure — I think upping my rails knowledge will be most beneficial before final project.

We had two tasks today, firstly to finish the like functionality that was only part completed yesterday and then implement comments into each post that is created. I was working with Anna and Hamish — Hamish and I haven’t worked together much on this project so it was cool to get some coding time together.

We were following a blog to create likes on posts, but as with most walk throughs they are not fool proof so were stuck with a list of errors! It took us all morning to fix that up before working on post commenting this afternoon.

The problem with Rails is my knowledge of it — with more contact time I am getting more confident but still it can do so much with single commands. So once we were finished for the day I decided to crack on with the project from the weekend that I didn’t get very far with.

This is why I have been so late with the blog tonight, that and listening so some classic Soca on twitch. I am building out instagram or Socagram as I have called it. I spent a lot of this evening working on infrastructure and whining my waist at the same time.

I elevated my mouse and keyboard for a makeshift standing desk and had some great cardio this evening. I really think I need to invest in an adjustable height desk as my back is really starting to feel all the hours at the desk.

Software and Soca

I have been loving this throw back from 2008 the last 24 hours, Gyal Farm from two names who are still big in the Soca scene in 2021 — Kerwin du Bois and Shal Marshall!
