You will be pleased to know that last night I was in bed by 9.30 and asleep by 10.30, which then lead to me waking up at 5.30am thinking I had overslept! lol. I am feeling 100% better for an early nights sleep so will try again tonight — fingers crossed!
Thursday means a catch up and coffee with Morné — discussions today were mostly around emigrating as Morné left South Africa 4 years ago to try life in the UK and I am planning to leave the UK to go and live in St. Lucia.
Straight into the Dream Team chat, which was mostly about Pete’s external review today — this is a kind of mock interview to help improve your skills and get an independent assessment to help you improve. Mine is booked for Monday and I am excited and terrified all at the same time.
From there we had our final workshop for the week, I would like to tell you what it was about but I was very confused for 99% of it. Tatsiana was talking about callbacks and I just drew blanks. Sometimes Makers likes to teach you stuff before you need it and other times lets you struggle a little first and then lets you know what you need to know. So I wasn’t to worries about my confusion, I know it would come to light soon.
Undeterred, I finished my morning study digging into yesterdays thermostat task and working on some basic JavaScript. It is starting to make more sense, most of what I am learning now is the standard ways to do things in the language.
Post lunch I was paired with Louis, the last of 3 people I am yet to be paired with. Louis and I’s paths have crossed quite a bit, but it was nice to get to know him on a more personal basis. We were working on installing a Javascript library called JQuery and also utilising a weather API for our app.
We started off a little lost but it was nothing some YouTube tutorials could not fix. JQuery is a ready made library that is designed to simplify how you make responsive web pages — basically gives you lots of shortcuts.
We had some fun playing around making buttons disappear and reappear — think secondary school word art flying around on a powerpoint presentation and you are pretty close. What I am coming to learn, more often than not is if it is mildly complicated, someone would have made a shortcut for it.

My learning experience feels like a zig zag and so what better song to chose than this classic from Lyrikal.
