Well, what a day, what a week! Week 3 of 12 is complete — I actually cannot believe how fast time is flying and how much I am enjoying myself. So let me tell you about today — Friday 22nd Jan! (for those of you in the future!)
I am still struggling with getting out of bed, hopefully I can catch up on rest over the weekend to get me my extra hour in the morning back up and running. But I was up and ready for my daily 9.30am check-in with the Dream Team.
We were all still having such a great week that woes have been out the window, winning! Socials and games night got us discussing how best we can interact as a cohort, outside of the programme. Karsten is King Gamer in the cohort so had a slew of suggestions. We also had our only free study morning of the week, so were comparing notes of what we wanted to study.
For me it was definitely prep for the weekend, hoping that if I can solidify my set up when I get to having to start building our weekend challenge — Rock, Paper, Scissors game — I would have a relaxing weekend. I took my time throughout the morning, building out some processes and let’s see how much they help me.
Lunch today was a longer walk, the Sun was shining — I knew as I could see it from my newly located desk and I wanted to go and recharge in it. So a walk to co-op gave me 45 mins of sun charging and has definitely left me feeling energetic all afternoon.
Each coach has their own preference of how our Friday afternoons like to be set up and Eóin put our weekly retro right after lunch. As a team we had much more good things than bad, which was incredible that I wasn’t the only one on a high for the week.
Eóin then briefly explained about week 4 — its a continuation of this week just with the addition of Databases to our web applications. What that means in practice, you will have to come back and read next week. All I know is that we are using PostgreSQL.
My final pair partner of the week was Hamish and although we haven’t paired together yet, we had crossed paths quite a lot in Workshops and on the quiz team last week! I wanted to change tact for the day, normally it isn’t about finishing but we were 3 steps from the finish line and I wanted a full working game to help orient my weekend challenge.
Hamish was up for the challenge and honestly it wasn’t as hard as it could have been. We used the walk throughs to guide us but also made sure our game had our own spin on the way we coded it. The game is still very basic, has no design elements, is just ruby and html but it works and I am beyond proud! The game ends with telling you which player is victorious and today it was definitely me!
Thanks so much for keeping up with my blog, I really appreciate all of your continued support! Please clap, comment, share or buy me a coffee! It all helps keeping me motivated and pushing on ❤
Software and Soca
For my victorious day, I have chosen a classic from Preedy. Preedy can turn his hand to any style of Soca and still come out wining! Enjoy and have a great weekend :D
