Day 14 — Chase the sun

It’s Thursday of Web week, and surprisingly (bar the last 30 mins) I have been smashing through the week, which has also left me pretty cheery!

This morning kicked off with the Dream Team as ever and with less woes all around we have time to talk about our experiences. This morning was about team and company wide planning using Scrums — and no I don’t mean a rugby scrum!

It is a popular framework in software development for project management and I had been lucky to been deeply involved in the planning side of things back when I worked for MassChallenge. I would be there to advocate for work our location needed doing by the development team during that sprint (two week time period).

This up close and personal planning experience really gave me great insight into what my future could be looking like and definitely inspired me at the time. So big love to Nathan, JK, Shankar who did all the heavy lifting as well as Roman, Annette and Jeff for helping me navigate those interesting meetings all those years ago. ❤

Our workshop today was debugging, this time for the web environment. Debugging helps you narrow down the problem, to be able to fix whatever is not working. We were split into groups as usual and I was with Louis and Sean. We were a little scatty to begin with but got the hang of what our task was and then Eóin popped in to see how we’re doing.

Although Eóin was trying to help, he ended up leading us down a rabbit hole. Easily done, but we felt pretty good by debugging his problems — Student teaching the Teacher — Great work team!

Lunchtime it was time for an episode of 60 minute makeover — not on the tv but with my desk. During the workshop I saw a couple of people with the sun shining on their face. I was so jealous, I am definitely a sun seeker, the sun was behind my back with the curtain pulled so I couldn’t appreciate it.

So in 25 mins flat I deconstructed and reconstructed my desk facing the complete opposite direction. It is taking a little time to get re-set up, but I hopefully will be able to bask in the sunshine!

This afternoon I was pairing with Josh — our paths haven’t crossed very much, so it was nice to work with him. We pushed ahead completing quite a lot, until we got to class extractions. This was my nemesis of week 2 and it was back. We tried our best but still ended up finishing up with our code in a mess.

We finished up a great session but I was still frustrated that I couldn’t get my extraction to work. Sean jumped on a Zoom with me and walked me through what he did, I think I have got the hang of it but we will go again tomorrow and see if I can conquer it, wish me luck!

Daily sleep update: Was up til midnight chatting to my Dad — Hey Dad! Didn’t help with waking up this morning!

Software and Soca

So in the spirit of sunshine here is the only Soca song I can find related to it! This is a nice little vibe and reminds of the better times enjoying the sunshine! :D
